Senator Ajibola Basiru of the Osun Central Senatorial District has advised Nigerian youths not to rely on certificates because civil service cannot absorb all graduates produced by universities each year.

Senator Basiru, the Senate Spokesperson, stated this at his GRA residence during a night out interactive session with the National Council of Nigerian Youths, Osun chapter.

He stated that what distinguished Nigerian youths at a critical juncture like this was their resourcefulness, excellence, and passion for industry, and that Nigerian youths can be self-sufficient if they so desired.

According to him, records show that some Nigerian youths have done well in the private sector since the days of nationalist struggle, and that with an overburdened Civil Service, they could do even better.

According to a lawmaker in the upper legislative Chambers, youths should fight for political space because the system will not provide them with seats or slots.

“We need elders in politics to drink from their well of knowledge and experience, just as we need youths to rely on their energy and resourcefulness,” he said.

“It is a mutually beneficial association and relationship. Youths must be actively involved in politics and compete for positions. The space is large.”

He insisted that youths have ample opportunities to develop skills outside of certificates in order to survive society’s pressures, adding that they could become labor employers.
