Actor Baba Ijesha sentenced to 16yrs in jail over s€xual assault
An Ikeja Special Offences Court, on Thursday, convicted popular actor, Olanrewaju James, better known as Baba Ijesha, of s€xually assaulting a 14-year-old minor.
Justice Oluwatoyin Taiwo, in a judgement that lasted two hours found Baba Ijesha guilty of indecent treatment of a child, sexual assault and attempted sexual assault.
She sentenced him to 16 years in jail concurrently.
Taiwo said it contravenes Section 135, 137, 261, 202, 262 and 263 of the Lagos State Criminal Law 2015, which stipulates life imprisonment for offenders.
However, the judge discharged and acquitted the Nollywood star of counts one and six, which were sexual assault by penetration and attempted sexual assault by penetration.
Taiwo said the prosecution failed to prove beyond reasonable doubt that the defendant is guilty of all the charges against him.
