The leadership of the Unified Nigerian Youth Forum (UNYF) has applauded President Muhammadu Buhari’s assent of the Electoral Act Amendment Bill. Calling it a watershed moment in the country’s democratic history.

Comrade Abdulsalam Moh’d Kazeem, said, “the decision of Mr President to sign the electoral bill into law came extremely late, but it is still far better than when he rejected.”

The Forum stated that the act was praiseworthy, and that it thinks and hopes that history would be fair to Mr President on that single act.

Adding that the aforementioned measure will bring about a lot of substantial visible changes in the country’s whole electoral landscape.

It stated that all of the articles included in the law were designed to strengthen the country’s democracy at all levels.

As well as to put a stop to all types of party manipulation that weakened the institution tasked with holding elections in Nigeria.

It was stated that the legitimacy of the country’s polls would have a favorable influence on Nigerians within the nation’s committee.

The group, however, stated that President Buhari’s request to the leadership of the 9th National Assembly to immediately amend the Act and delete Section 84.

Which stipulated that anyone holding any political office, whether as a minister, commissioner, Special Adviser, or others, must relinquish the position before they can be eligible to participate as a delegate or candidate, should be outright ignored because the request is not in the best interests of the nation.

They argued that President Buhari must demonstrate to Nigerians, that national interests take precedence over individual and personal desires by not postponing the request for money release. Which might hold down preparations for the 2023 general elections.
