Ighalo speaks on super eagle come back
Odion Ighalo has spoken for the first time about speculations over a return to the Super Eagles two years after he quit international football.
Ighalo quit the Eagles after the 2019 AFCON in Egypt after scoring 16 goals in 35 appearances during his five-year career with the Super Eagles.
However, the former Watford and Manchester United striker could now be set to make a return to fold after revealing that had held discussions with coach Gernot Rohr and was considering his options.
“I have been approached by the coach, but I haven’t decided yet whether this is a path I want to follow again,” the 31-year-old told the BBC.
“We’ve been talking about it for a while and hopefully soon I will make that decision.
“I need to decide because I have huge respect for my country and the coach, so it’s only fair to let people know where you stand.”
Ighalo made his international debut during a 1-0 friendly loss to Uganda in 2015 and went on to become Nigeria’s seventh-highest-scoring player of all time with 16 goals, including a tournament-high five strikes at the 2019 AFCON.
