Napoli rename home ground ‘Diego Maradona stadium’ after late football legend

DIEGO MARADONA: On Friday, December 4, the Naples city council unanimously approved a resolution to change the name of Napoli’s home stadium from Stadio san paolo to stadia Diego Armando Maradona, just a week after the football legend passed away in his native Argentina aged 60.

The resolution was proposed by Naples mayor Luigi De Magistris a day after Maradona had passed away but the city council has now approved the renaming process.

He led Napoli to two Serie A titles during his seven_year run with Napoli from 1984_1991 and is seen by football fans and locals in Naples as a revered figure.

With his ample artistry, he is able to stand out with his immense taken and his magic, he honored the Napoli shirt for seven years, giving it two historical champions and other prestigious cups, and receiving in exchange from the whole city an eternal and unconditional love, a statement on Friday from the council read.

Although the football victories of the Argentine champion, it was only the Napoli team that won but the whole city, which fully identifies with him.

The last and final step in the stadium’s name change will be the authorization of the prefect of the province of Naples.

This renaming is a great honor to Late Maradona and family. May his soul rest in God’s bosom the Naples continue to honor his personality here on earth.
