The 30-year jail term handed to Sinaga and McCann by the Court of Appeal was considered by The Attorney General’s Office as “unduly lenient”.

This October, there was a hearing in London, Solicitor General Micheal Ellis QC opted that the culprits should have been given the life terms. He also added that the crime which these two have committed is one of the worse ever witnessed by the country.

A five-judge panel opted out of the ‘whole life terms on McCann and Sinaga but instead, their sentences were increased to 40 years.

On Friday, 10th of December, Lord Burnett said :

“The offending in the cases of McCann and Sinaga, very serious indeed though it is, does not, in our judgment, call for either to receive a whole life tariff.

Lord Burnett added that ” McCann and Sinaga’s crimes ended up as one of the most terrific crimes of rape ever both in England and in Wales.
