Nse Ikpe-Etim becomes first Nigerian to win best lead actress award after four years

After four years, Nse Ikpe-Etim, a Nollywood actress, is the first Nigerian to take home the best lead actress award from the AMAA.

The African Movie Academy Awards, or AMAA, ceremony was held on Sunday at the Balmoral Convention Centre in Ikeja, Lagos, and was hosted by Nancy Isime, Rahama Sadau, and Richard Ato Turkson.

Filmmakers from all over the world gathered for the awards presentation, which recognized the finest of African cinema.

With her performance in Izu Ojukwu’s 4-4-44 (Four-Four-Fourty-Four), Nse became the first Nigerian actress to win the best actress category in 2019.

Sola Sobowale had previously done so for King of Boys.

Osas Ighadaro and Eniola Akinbo, popularly known as Niyola, were the only two Nigerians nominated for best actress in 2022, for their roles in Man of God and Swallow, respectively.

Unfortunately, they were defeated by Ikhlas Gafur Vora, a Tanzanian actress who won the tug of war trophy.
