The Plateau Special Task Force, Operation Safe Haven (OPSH), has apprehended 12 suspects in connection with the Saturday morning killings on Rukuba Road in the state’s Jos North Local Government Area.

OPSH is in charge of keeping the peace in Plateau and its environs.

Maj. Ishaku Takwa, the operation’s Media Officer, revealed this in a statement issued on Saturday in Jos.

According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), gunmen attacked a convoy of five buses on Saturday, killing 22 people and injuring 14.

“This morning, our troops responded quickly to reports that suspected hoodlums had blocked a junction along Rukuba Road in Jos North and attacked some commuters.

“Troops were immediately mobilized to the scene and returned normalcy to the situation.

“Unfortunately, some people died in the tragic incident, while others with varying degrees of injuries were evacuated to a medical facility for treatment.

“Twelve suspects have been arrested in connection with the incident, and troops are on the lookout for others who participated in the heinous act.”

“Those arrested are currently being interrogated,” he said.

According to Takwa, the task force’s commander, Maj.-Gen. Ibrahim Ali, has urged members of the public to provide credible information that will lead to the arrest of other suspects who are currently at large.

He added that the commander also urged residents in the area to remain calm and law-abiding, and to carry on with their lawful activities without fear of intimidation.

However, he stated that security personnel had increased patrols in Jos metropolis in order to maintain peace and security.
