Ukraine has repels a Russian attack on a military installation in Kyiv.

Ukraine’s army announced Saturday that it has repulsed a Russian attack on one of Kyiv’s main thoroughfares.

Russia attacked one of the military units on Victory Avenue in Kyiv, and the attack was thwarted. the Ukrainian army claimed on its verified Facebook page, without saying where the incident occurred.

According to an AFP correspondent, powerful explosions were reported in downtown Kyiv early Saturday.

Separately, the army stated that “intense battle” was taking place in the town of Vasylkiv, south of Kyiv, and that Russia was “trying to land paratroopers.”

The military also claimed to have shot down a Russian helicopter and SU-25 aircraft about midnight on Saturday, as well as destroying an IL-76 military transport jet.

The number of individuals on board was not specified in the announcement.

Russia’s defense ministry has not confirmed the casualties.
