Woman kills husband with a pestle in Ondo

A middle-aged woman is accused of killing her 67-year-old husband and then hiding out in Ondo, Ondo State, Nigeria.
Recently, the incidence took place in Ondo Town, Ondo State, in the GRA neighborhood.

Sources claim that the suspect, Mrs. Tayelolu Solomon, beat her husband, age 67, in the head with a pestle while he was asleep.
It was learned that the couple had been dealing with a lingering dilemma before the occurrence.

Ibukun Solomon, the deceased’s son, who was present and saw the occurrence, later confirmed its details to news reporters.

Solomon claimed that his mother struck his father’s head with a pestle while he was asleep, killing him.

He continued by saying that his mother instantly fled the scene after committing the crime and that the two had argued earlier in the day.
Solomon (the deceased’s son) said, “My mother killed my father with a pestle in my presence and took to her heels. She used the pestle to hit his head when he was asleep.

“Earlier on the fateful day, a minor argument had ensued between them that resulted in a fight. After the fight, my father went to lie on the chair and my mother hit his head with the pestle.

When my mother saw that my father was already unconscious, she hid the pestle at the back of our house and ran away. I alerted some of the residents, who rushed my father to the hospital.

“But he later died. His corpse has been deposited at the morgue. My mother had three children for my father and I’m the last child.”

Confirming the incident, the state Police Public Relations Officer of the command, Mrs Funmilayo Odunlami said, the command would soon arrest the suspect.

The Police PRO said the deceased was quickly rushed to the hospital where he gave up the ghost.

“The incident happened last week when the couple had a fight but the suspect is currently at large. We are already on her trail,” she stated.

In another story, An Ondo State Chief Magistrate Court, sitting in Odigbo, Odigbo Local Government Area of the state, has ordered the remand of a man, Kayode Ojo, in prison for attempting to commit suicide inside a police cell.

The defendant was earlier arrested by the men of the state police command, for attempting to take his own life.

He was alleged to have attempted to drink a poisonous liquid substance inside the cell and was consequently, arraigned before the court by the police on one charge of attempted murder.

According to the police prosecutor, Mr James Usifo, the offence committed contravenes Section 327 of the Criminal Code Cap. 37 Volume 1 Laws of Ondo State of Nigeria, 2006.

Usifo told the court that the defendant committed an offence of attempting to kill himself by drinking a poisonous substance suspected to be a disinfectant in police custody. He was said to have earlier been arrested for another crime and detained in a police cell where he attempted to kill himself.

While the defendant pleaded guilty to the charge, the Chief Magistrate, D. O. Ogunfuyi, in his ruling, remanded the defendant at the Okitipupa Correctional Centre and adjourned the case till October 10, 2023, for fact and sentence.
