Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello has said that until politicians stop using thugs for elections, the country will not be safe.

Appearing on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily program on Wednesday, December 23, Bello alleged that political thuggery was the norm in Kogi before he came into power but he has continuously refused to play that kind of dangerous or unnecessary politics.

The North-Central state Governor also averred that he has dealt with criminals irrespective of political affiliations by using the laws passed by the Kogi State House of Assembly and the existing security architecture.

He Said;

“When I came on board, I inherited a state that was largely divided along several lines. For you to aspire to be anything politically in Kogi State then, you must have what we call ‘boys’ or thugs or touts and then use it to intimidate people during political dispensations.

“Once the political exercise is over, the so-called boys or thugs or foot soldiers would be abandoned and then left to themselves and by that, they breed into something else or a hydra-headed monster that you will not be able to curb at the end of the day. There are several history and intelligence to that across the country.

“But I refused to play that kind of dangerous or unnecessary politics when I came on board. My ascension to the office is known to everybody in the world. I chose my path immediately and decided to deal with criminals irrespective of political affiliations by using the laws passed by the Kogi State House of Assembly and the existing security architecture.”

Buhari Congratulates Prof. Itse Sagay as he clocks 80

The President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), on Saturday; congratulated the Chairman Presidential Advisory Committee on Corruption, Prof Itse Sagay, as he clocks 80 on Sunday.

“Prof Sagay, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, on basis of his academic works, was a high flyer, recording best academic performances in the university and bar examinations, which President Buhari urges the younger generation to emulate, and set as standards for themselves”.

Buhari’s congratulatory message was contained in a statement by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, ‘President Buhari celebrates Prof Itse Sagay at 80’.

Adesina quoted the President as saying that Sagay’s integrity and commitment to transparency mark him out as a Nigerian of sterling character.

Governor Umahi sacks all political appointees from former AGF, Anyim’s local government

GOVERNOR UMAHI: The contradiction between David Umahi, the Governor and former secretary to the Government of the federation, Pius Anyim has taken another Trista as the Ebonyi state Governor sacks all his political appointees from his former ally’s local government.

After Anyim wrote about the open letter to Mr. Umahi and copied President Buhari and heads of security agencies in the country. He accused Me Umahi of plotting to kill him, among other issues he raised, the sack came afterward.

In a statement released on Wednesday, December 2 by a secretary to the state government, Kenneth Ugbala, the state government said the removal of the appointees from the Ivo local government area was based on the policy of inclusive governance by Umahi’s administration.

All Senior Technical Assistants(STAS) and Technical assistants (TAS) to the government; All Liaison officers; and management committee members from Ivo local Government Area are those affected by the sack.

Officeholders who are affected are expected to hand over all government property in their possession to the office of the SSG and coordinator commissioner.

Here’s the statement;
“In keeping with the policy of inclusive governance, the Governor of Ebonyi State, His Excellency Engr Chief David Nweze Umahi has approved the removal from office of the following political office holders from Ivo Local Government Area.

“They are All Senior Technical Assistant, STAs and Technical Assistants, TAs from Ivo Local Government Area.

“All Liaison Officers from Ivo Local Government Area; All Management Committee members from Ivo Local Government Area.

“The affected office holders are to handover all Government Property in their possession to the Secretary to the State Government and Coordinating Commissioner by the close of work today, 2nd December 2020.”
