Rafael van der Vaart, a former Ajax and Real Madrid star, has slammed Paris Saint-Germain’s Lionel Messi after comparing him to Manchester United’s Cristiano Ronaldo.

Van der Vaart also questioned Messi’s desire and passion by comparing his current form to his long-term rival, Ronaldo.

The Dutchman said Messi should be ashamed, adding the former Barcelona captain will never be born again as he does not seem to be trying to take PSG forward, while Ronaldo has been working very hard to do so with Man United.

Messi has scored just four goals in 10 appearances for PSG in all competitions so far this season, while Ronaldo has scored 10 goals in 14 appearances for Manchester United in all competitions.

The Argentine had an underwhelming game against Manchester City in the Champions League on Wednesday as PSG lost 2-1 at Etihad, while Ronaldo, on the other hand, netted a crucial opening goal in Man United’s 2-0 win against Villarreal to secure their place in the knockout rounds of the Champions League.

“It makes me sad. It’s a question of desire. Does he want it or not? When you compare him to Cristiano Ronaldo, one is fighting to take his team to the next level – and one isn’t,” Van der Vaart was quoted by Sportskeeda as saying.

“Messi walks now and then. I look at him and think, ‘Aren’t you ashamed?’ I’m just getting annoyed with Messi. It already started a bit with Ronald Koeman [at Barcelona].

“It was actually a refusal to work, that is not normal for such a player. And that’s a shame, because a player like this will never be born again.”

Chelsea manager, Thomas Tuchel has boasted that now is the best time for the Blues to beat Manchester United as they meet this weekend at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea welcome United to Stamford Bridge on Sunday, November 28, on a run of 10 games without defeat in all competitions, having won nine of those and kept seven clean sheets.

Tuchel believes Manchester United can never be discounted, either in a match or the wider Premier League race despite their current struggles and the club’s recent sacking of Ole Gunnar Solksjaer.

You can see it either way, in the end we will not lose too many minutes thinking about this, but we will give all our energy and focus on our squad and what we want to do right, Tuchel told TribalFootball.

“We only have one game with Michael Carrick in charge to focus on and to analyse. Of course we have some individual behaviour and some group behaviour that we think we can see as patterns and want to prepare our team for it.

“On the other side it is always the best moment to play against Manchester United because we are up for the big challenges and we want to be out there to play on the highest level, to prove ourselves and to prove a point.

We just came from a tough match and there’s the next one, this is where we are, where we love to be, and we get challenged on the highest level again on Sunday.”

FIFA may ban Nigeria if Gernot Rohr is sacked without due process – Senate committee on sports

Senator Obinna Ogba, the Chairman, Senate Committee on Sports and Youth Development,  has said FIFA may sanction Nigeria if Super Eagles coach, Gernot Rohr is sacked without the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) carrying out due process.

Rohr’s sack calls increased after the team struggled to earn a draw against Cape Verde in their last group game of the 2022 World Cup qualifiers.

Although Nigeria qualified for the world cup play-offs, the performance did not raise good hopes among football fans who believe the team might not make it out of the play-offs of they meet more composed opponents in front of goal.

Senator Ogba has now warned fans calling for the sack of the Super Eagles coach, Gernot Rohr, to exercise some patience as sacking him without due process could have ramifications

“Yes, so many persons have called for his sack. It needs to be discussed because there was an agreement with the sports operators in football.” He said to The Guardian.

There is a way you will sack him, and if you don’t pay him certain amount of money, FIFA will ban Nigeria and when they ban us, you will complain. Why not allow football operators discuss the issues by finding a way out?

“Mind you, part of the agreement is for him to qualify Nigeria for Nations Cup, and he has done that. No matter how he qualified.

“The next thing is the World Cup, and it is still on. For me, I am not Amaju Pinnick, who is the president of NFF. But I am also a board member, and I can tell you authoritatively that among us, many have asked that he should step aside. But it is not something you say for saying sake.

“It has to be a discussion, meetings, and so many things have to be taken into consideration. Even if it warrants sacking him, we will sack him, otherwise we allow him be,” he stated.
